Oops, I did it again.
I failed to meet expectations, just like I have so many times before.
But this time, I’ve realized something important: going against your gut can lead to bad decisions, especially when it comes to growth.
Our brains are wired to offer logical excuses that hold us back from taking risks and following our intuition.
But in reality, we often overestimate the price of listening to our gut and underestimate the cost of ignoring it.
Self-doubt is often the biggest obstacle to growth, but there are two strategic ways to overcome it:
- practicing skills in a safe environment or
- finding an experienced mentor to guide you.
It’s important to identify your priorities when taking on a new project or opportunity, whether it’s to learn something new, gain testimonials, or make money.
Personally, I prioritize expanding my knowledge and skillset before thinking about money.
Regardless of your priorities, it’s crucial to listen to your gut and express yourself honestly, even if it’s your first time doing so.
Communication with the other party is also key to ensure you’re progressing in the right direction and avoiding wasted time and frustration.
The takeaway?
Trust your head and heart in equal measure, and don’t be afraid to say no when something doesn’t feel right. If you don’t do that it may cost you time, energy, money and most importantly relationships.
